The liver is the largest gland in the body. The job of the liver is to make a yellow/green fluid called bile that emulsifies, or breaks down fats. It is important to remember that although the liver breaks down the fats it does not digest these fats. Some common disorders of this gland are jaundice and hepatitis. Jaundice is caused by too much bilirubin which is a yellow chemical in hemoglobin. The liver cannot handle the blood cells as they break down and bilirubin builds up causing the yellowness of the skin. Another disorder of the liver is hepatitis. Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver.
